Here is my first true Jersey doodle. This is what has become of me: I'm documenting traffic. Harking back to the plight of the highway motorist in North Jersey, I decided it was a good first predicament to cast in ink. It took all week to complete, not only because I am a slow doodler, but also because I invested an extraordinary amount of time in getting lost. Call it research ;)

Aimee you make me laugh! Good luck with your continuing research! xo xo
Yes, I didn't really "get" the point of FM roads that go parallel to the highway until we moved to TX.
I know your pain!! Hang in there.
amen, sister. this happened to a friend of mine last week and she was half an hour late for her appointment! and, all that sign language from the other drivers is so distracting, but that's probably not just in nj :).
Isn't it fun navigating Route 17, Route 4 and all those crazy U-Turns to get to the other side! :-)
bahahaha! I so relate to this one, too!
Haha!! Love this!!! I think this could be true for a couple of other cities that will remain un-named as well!! I'm sure you'll be just like a native in no time :D
Haha!! Thanks for brightening my day!!
For reals.
LOL, funny... but so true! I was always missing turnpikes in the East coast... seriously seems like the signs disappear sometimes...
oh aimee, just yesterday i spaced for a second while driving + suddenly i was crossing this big expansive bridge across a river to a WholeOtherPlace...+ that's just in lil' minnesota! i can't even imagine NJ!! love your crazytrue map! xoxo
I laughed out loud when I saw this. My husband ended up buying me a gps after I continually got lost in NJ and couldn't find a place to turn around. Every freeway exit turns into a new freeway and you aren't allowed to turn left!
Hahaha by this estimation I think I shall start calling a lot of things research ;) great doodle happy day 28 :) x
LOL Aimee, I love it. Sounds like Johannesburg too :)
Had the same experience in Brazil. Signs are almost on the exit you need. They should read "You have just passed the Avenue Exit". :D
Awesome doodle.
Too bad I couldn't enter the contest below, I need a personal map! It's good to have a personal map of how to get lost sometimes I think many of us need to get lost from time to time...
Love the doodle!
Aimee, this is FABULOUS!!! (you actually made this poster, right?) i love it!! Love the lettering...
Your post made me laugh (although i can't relate, living in a small coastal town in eastern Canada where traffic is almost a foreign word!)
Keep doodling!!
LOL Welcome to the land of jug handles!
LOL! Excellent!
That is so funny! Sure felt that on Hwy 80 going through Utah this summer. An offramp every 60 miles, 115°, really too bad for you if you miss.
"Recalculate. Recalculate. Recalculate."
turns out I am continuing your research here in Australia... we used to live in south Florida but always got lost because there seemed to be no landmarks and it is a little flatter than we are used to... to make it all worse it was on the wrong side of the road and the wrong side of the car.... just never really got used to it I have to say...this has bought back many memories of those years!!!
I'm from NJ, reading this made me so homesick. But I love the doodle.
Love that you are close enough for a nibble of whatever you want, but not close enough to be eaten alive. Such a good move! NJ is the only place I know where you turn right to turn left.
Oy oy oy! Is this the artsy version of writing "I will not get lost" 100 times on the blackboard? My heart goes out to ya. But I know you'll be driving like a native in no time!
left turns...never heard of them!
You are funny and cute. 2 qualities I like in a person.
xokp
it's great to see that your fabulous sense of humor hasn't gotten lost along the way! your artwork is nothing short of genius, doodle girl!! xoxox
Oh No btu ROFLMAO, this happened to me so often when we came to London 9 years ago, I was forever taking the wrong trains and landing up heaven knows where----
Thanks so much for the etsy treasury mention- make me an offer for 'Innocence' and she is yours sweet friend!
Well, I've never been to New Jersey but this still made me laugh. Maybe your doodle could be blown up big and hung over the NJ motorways, as a warning?
Lovely and fun ;)
I love it.
So true about North Jersey!! Getting lost was definitely worth every minute of it...look what you created?!?!? Love this!
My GPS once yelled at me and said: IMPOSSIBLE IMPOSSIBLE, make an IMMEDIATE U-Turn! My husband still doesn't believe me... Love to you and New Jersey! xoxo
OH DEAR! glad you have your wonderful humour though! you make every situation look aboslutely fabulous and colourful--- i would have just used terribly bad language and been in a bad mood... :)
hope you dont end up doing to much 'research' -lots of love
xxx
(ps could you email me you addi pls?)
so sad but so true..
been living it all my life..
xo
simple instructions are the best. Too funny! {:-D
oh my goodness...this just made me crack up. I love it. Welcome to NJ :0)
Bah hahahahahaha!
I've had that exact experience. And those damned "jug handles!"
