Today was an exploring AND doodling day! New schools and obligations are imminent, as is winter weather, so I am cramming in as much as I can before organized chaos and chilly days descend upon the household. This afternoon we went to the little artsy town of Nyack, about 30 miles north of NYC. Picked up a yummy brioche & a jar of homemade honey at the farmers market, ate gelato, each picked out a new book, then took our Crayola oil pastels (I've been hooked on them ever since my last art date with Shannon in Kansas City) and our journals to the Hudson waterfront (that's the Tappan Zee bridge in the background) and scribbled away. Topped off the afternoon by fattening up the birds with a bit of our brioche. There is so much to do in Nyack -- we didn't even put a dent in the place. Such an easy drive from where we are, so we'll be back for sure!

That town looks like a great find. NJ appears to already be having an effect -- that fish looks a lot tougher than KS fish. Happy exploring!

That's my kinda bookstore! And if you're talking about the water-soluble oil pastels--I just bought some and really like them, too!

Oh boy. You have me misty eyed and wishing for NY. I sure do miss the Hudson. We used to live right on it. Doodling in the last vestiges of autumn warmth. How wonderful is that! And WOOHOOO, you found a true blue book store! Your new adventure is off to a fabulous start!

We try to make the 10 hr trip to Maine every year, and always take the Tappan Zee. And to think we've never once stopped in Nyack! So glad I can explore the town vicariously thru you until I try it myself .And so excited that you are near to our route! Can't wait to hear about all the other explorations you're about to have, too. It's a great area!

Yay, you are here! I am so glad you guys missed Octsnowber! Let me recommend Storm King Art Center before they close for the season...an outdoor sculpture garden the girls will love! New Windsor, NY (less than an hour away and amazing during fall).

Welcome to the EC!

There is absolutely NOTHING not to love in this post - I'm so glad to see you jump in to find your groove when your feet have barely touched the ground :D Awesome doodles, love the moster :) That bookstore, the red side table, the pottery, the sun - can't believe you're still wearing short sleeves so far north!!

Love your photos! This day sounds and looks divine--I especially love how everyone is doodling away and completely oblivious to the bird droppings on the table :). I love how you're already jumping into the adventures of your new home!

It gives me a pang to see pictures of your girls THERE and not here! But it looks like you all are having a great time--seeing great things, and making great art. Good luck!
