So it's settled! Or at least, we will soon be. After tootling through lots of historic & charming little villages in North Jersey we've decided to drop our anchor there. As you can imagine I am taking a great deal of (good natured) crap these days about the whole Jersey Shore thing. I solemnly promise I will do my artsy best to not go all Jersey Shore on everyone. The most Lawrence-like of the villages I've seen so far seems to be Montclair, so I'll make sure to do lots of phototours there. If anyone has any recommendations on doodleworthy towns to visit in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut (anywhere in the NYC vicinity, really), my inbox is all yours. My camera shutter is itching to click and my pen is yearning to doodle. Fresh meat of the East, just one month away.

FIRST! WAHOOO!
North Jersey is in for a REAL TREAT! Jersey Shore? Pffft. You're going to aimeefy the place, and it's going to be awesome!
My friend Sarah lives in NJ!! (she comments on your blog as megustaensalada?) HOW AWESOME!! I feel that's close-ish to RI? haha, only 5-6 hours away? She and I have been planning on meeting up this fall...perhaps you'll join us? Congratulations, and safe travels as you move :D
Exciting! My best friend is from Cloister, NJ and I spent time visiting her there years ago before she moved to NY. It'll be great to be so near to NYC and yet just far enough away :) Maybe someday we'll cross paths at an East Coast art event! Have a smooth move.
I don't think anyone's ever made Jersey look so inviting. Congratulations on settling on an area! As for other photogenic towns, you might enjoy Millburn, Maplewood, Short Hills, and South Orange, which are all in the same county as Montclair. And in West Orange, the view of the city from the Eagle Rock Memorial is stunning.
xo
LOOKS beautiful! Good for you.. love all the photos you've shared with us... thks for that! xo I've never been there, it looks amazing.
the 'real housewives of nj' live just north of montclair :). you might track them down and have a cup of cawfee and tawk - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Real_Housewives_of_New_Jersey
but, bobbi brown the make-up artist person lives in montclair and might be more inspiring to meet in person, plus i don't think she's flipped a table.
actually, the jersey shore is beautiful and so is most of nj, cape may is definitely worth a visit.

Thankfully, much of New Jersey and it's inhabitants are not the "Jersey Shore" type! There are lovely areas, and some of my favorite people live there! I would happily live in either Ridgewood or Summit, and I am sure that there are others just as nice. Good luck as you finalize your plans!
I lived and worked in new jersey. Yay!!! My sister still lives in north nj and visit her regularly. Nj will certainly be, as Bella says, aimeefied!!!!
You are coming out just in time for fall foliage season!
I think you need to give Lambertville(NJ)/New Hope(PA) a whirl, plan a canoeing trip at the Delaware Water Gap, and go apple picking.
And although you are averse to the shore, Snookie isn't around the Barnegat Light House this time of year!
Wishing you happy settling in!
oh aimee, the jersey shore?!!
congratulations! what an adventure this will be! it will be so fun to see all your doodles as you move shoreward forward XOX
snooky--I mean, Aimee--this is all so exciting! I've been through most of those towns at one point or another and failed to see the artsy beauty that you did. HUrrah for the move!
I'm excited that you are coming soon. I like the Garden state, so far. I hope you will too :) See you soon, neighbor.
What do those Jersey Shore people say? Gym Tan Laundry or something? Your motto can be Art Adventure Color :)
beautiful as always.
try main street westport, ct. it used to have a funky pink bookstore called The Remarkable Bookshop. I hope it is still there.
also, washington square park, prospect park, almost any place around nyc.
How exciting Aimee!!! I can't wait for the photo-tours to begin!! :)
xo
I can't wait to see the Jersey shore through your eyes...I KNOW it'll change my mind about that region!
:-)
LOVE the Old Post Office! That sunset is beautiful!

Bet it feels good to have decided! I don't know anything about Jersey Shores or North Jersey but since it's back east and it's old there's probably plenty going on with them. Just get settled and see what YOU think of the places and let them know YOU are there with all your color and art!
Wonderful! I am an ex'Jersey girl. SO many great places in NJ.
Oh, it looks like such a lovely place. Thanks for sharing some fun photos! Love the "old post office" sign!
Ah! Now I see why Governor Christie decided not to run for president. He didn't want to leave his new Artsyville family. Any place that considers 8:30 a.m. as "early" is good enough for me.
Good luck with the move! May you find all the creative wonders that you vision there!
oh cheers on the new home! happy transitioning! can't wait to hear the details.
New Jersey is awesome! I grew up in Northwestern NJ. There are lots of small towns. People think NJ is all malls and highways but there is lots of beauty, too! You might like Chester -- it has a main street with antique shops and other goodies. Princeton has lots of charming old houses. It is especially pretty at the holidays. If you like farms, take a drive out in Sussex County.
Any chance we could get together before you move?!
Thank you for the beautiful excursion.
Loved the journey.
oh, bloody hell, even I know what jersey shore is. unfortunately (I only found out recently. unfortunately. I try to avoid that kind of crap like the pest.)
don't you start wearing a&f now ;P
Congrats on the move! You are not very far from me in NY! Pretty pics you have shared. I hope you get settled peacefully.
Make sure you bring your camera to Ocean City, NJ and Red Bank. I see someone already mentioned Cape May.
Yay, and exciting new adventure!
Debbie
Welcome to NJ! I have lived here my whole life and I'm nothing like those Jersey Shore characters -- most of whom aren't even from NJ! There are so many great places to visit. If you're looking for somewhere specific, let me know! Montclair, Ridgewood and Allendale are great towns!
Thanks everyone for all the suggestions! I can't wait to start exploring!
I've lived in South Jersey my entire life. (Other than the taxes here I love it!) WELCOME! Definately check out Lambertville/New Hope area and if you are feeling like a road trip, head south to Haddonfield, Mullica Hill and down the "real" shore -- Cape May!
i LOVE the fence picture. with the sunshine sneaking through. so perdy. :)
