can it

can-it

here are the latest victims of my need to paint whatever is in front of me. cans. i don't think they even qualify as art. but they add color to my life, and to me that's worth the effort no matter what they're called. the idea came from these prettily painted coffee can planters nailed to my neighbor's tree. my personal opportunity arrived during an absolute panic over a preschool potluck picnic (you know how i am about cooking) and didn't know what to make that wouldn't poison the crowd. i settled on my default dish which requires no cooking, merely tossing (chickpeas + olive oil + cumin + garlic salt + lemon juice) which left me with four empty chickpea cans. i de-labeled, liquitexed and stuffed them with flowers and we'll see how long they live -- both the cans and the flowers. i'm aching to paint the walls now but the porch (as you can see) really should be next. it is desperate.

Hi-larious! I lose all control once I've started painting. I run around the house looking for "what else needs to be spray painted blue right now" and god help the cats if they get in my way. Maybe my muse is on crack at that moment?

Dunno, but I like your display!

Beautiful and colorful...that's artful living! (not to mention upcycling!) Think of your deck as having a "lovely patina", and maybe you won't have to be in such a rush to paint it! :-)

LOVELY! And I totally understand the need to paint - our house was just painted (jacaranda, so pretty!) and now I'm itching to paint the inside in pretty colours... maybe some cans would be better, much less prep work, LOL!

isn't art adding some color to you life? Just finished wrapping Miss A's teacher gifts (tomorrow is her last day of 2nd grade) and one of them is something from your Etsy shop! :) Thanks for all the color and inspiration you share with us!

Love your cans. I'm into scrapbook-papering any can that will stand still long enough! It is madness, I tell you :)

with the children's party coming up, I at least now have a purpose for a while..

This is what I would call "folk art". The unofficial kind. I love this as it's so spontaneous. I love going by houses that do this kind of art. It revs up my happiness quotient quite a bit! It says "I'm having fun even if it isn't 'proper' art" and that is good for all of us. Someone who claims to be art-challenged might think to themselves upon seeing these that perhaps they could do this too and who knows where that will lead to!
