just a mess

just-a-mess

greetings from clutterville! in the corner of this all-out mess is a peep of a wedding menu i just finished lettering (a yummy process though i'm pretty sure i gained ten pounds from it), and i am desperately hoping to wrangle something else out of this desky disaster today, if only to clean it. i always feel better when my surroundings are neat and shipshape, but if i let my guard down for even a nanosecond, disorder naturally claims victory. even when i'm totally on top of my game, some sort of disarray arrives to balance out the order. desk clean? dirty clothes will explode out of the laundry room if i open the door. finances sharpened and bills paid? something rotten lurks in the fridge. art stuff organized? the car must be in a state of squalor. then there's the chaos unfolding around me. in the last few days i've found a calculator in my shoe, a stuffed animal on the roof, a one-pounder of pretzels on my jewelry dresser, and dying seedlings in the kitchen (4 year old fed them No More Tangles.) it all appears to be a wreck at the moment so the hell with it. i'm going out to lunch and i'll deal with it later. for now i will have to be just a mess.

The "No More Tangles" thing with the seedlings had me laughing- and a shoe on your HOUSE roof?! Must know the story behind that.

even funnier was how i found it. i was outside to take the trash out and just happened to look up and see this little pink bear perfectly perched on his little tushy. good throw i guess. i would have just left it there but mr. artsyville put our ladder to good use and retrieved it.

the no more tangles incident was a little more complicated. we found the empty bottle and a little puddle on the floor on friday, so we thought she just dumped it out for the hell of it and that was that. then the plants (which had been thriving up until that point) started suffering, so mr. artsyville took those outside for some fresh air and sun where they continued to deteriorate, so he brought them back inside, and by yesterday they were nearly doomed. eventually we realized she had dumped the No More Tangles in the spray bottle for the plants and that we all had been continuously poisoning them for three days.

That is a high-calorie menu! Oh, those poor, poor seedlings.

Hope you enjoyed your lunch!

Oh my goodness...I am laughing so hard I can't handle it!! Of course I say this as my 4 year old "styles" my hair with...oh yes...No More Tangles and a hand full of flowery hair clips. Lol. I love your clutter...it's an art form all in it's own....or at least thats what I try telling my husband.

Oh this sounds so familiar! i only did the whole flat on Friday yet today I have done it all again and there is still ironing and a totally covered with art stuff table and it is not even a big flat and I don't even have children! Ah well. Hope lunch was nice!

Ditto Kim's empathy for the seedlings. What a story! I wonder if your daughter in her own way is trying to "detangle" your environment. :)

I completely understand the need for a clear space to create. It's why I'm such a big fan of Feng Shui.

I also honor the challenge of keeping space clear with two imaginative, energetic little ones under your roof!

lunch is always a great solution for just about anything.....especially if there's chocolate involved for dessert. oh what the heck, just eat dessert. xox, :))

I live in Clutterville, too. It's messy, a little chaotic, but kinda nice at the same time. :)

Cluttrville, hahaha, I've lived there all my life!
Never ever manage to get on top of things and basically now I don't care anymore as long as one room at a time looks decent :)

So heartening to hear stories that make me remember I 'm not the only one@ What you said about getting one are just right to the dertriment of all else rang very true.

I need to say "the hell with it" more often and go out for a drink with the girls...

That's a mighty organized lookin bit o' clutter you got there! The no more tangles attempt is so cute! It reminds me of putting moose in my teddy bears fur when I was that age ;)

the Universe does love balance right?

you're doing just fine it seems.

Thanks Aimee....I needed that! My house is a disaster, the car a biohazard, the fridge a biosphere, and I could really use some No More Tangles. Great to start the day with a smile!

It's one of the laws of physics in this Douglas Adams universe we live in: Conservation of Disorder. Yup.

I love mess! It means there's chaotic creativity ricocheting everywhere. At least that's what I tell myself because I hate cleaning.

lucky wedding peeps!
& oh, yes, clutterville...

regular ol' days,

a couple closets & whole third
bedroom to make space so our boys
can each have their own rooms,

entropy! what the heck?!? i usually succomb to the madness and try to find reasons to tidy up when nature will simply take it's course again and again... kind of like my diet! :) i love to see a good lived in space. makes me feel human.

Bahahaaaaa! This is ridiculously familiar. Orange kool-aid in the goldfish, cutlery sparking in the microwave, matchbox cars clattering around in the dryer... oh yeah. Definitely need some chocolate. : )
