yesterday morning i was looking for a crafty way out of yard work. when my kids walked by with their arms full of branches, i had my excuse! i took the sticks, slapped on some liquitex, let them dry, bound them with a piece of scrap paper from my abstract adventure, and now i am very happy with my artsy sticks. at first i thought i'd use them as wall hangers or curtain rods, but now i think i'll just prop them up in a corner to give the room a splash of color. quick, easy, and (mostly) free weekend fun!

Howdy friend, I am back in bloggyland. And i so missed the joy of seeing your (and the girls) artventures. these sticks rock!
love them! what a great way to add color... my neighbor's trees keep dropping branches in my yard. maybe an afternoon painting session is in order!
SOOOO cool!
Gorgeous!!! I love 'em.
Brilliant!
So fun! Love them as curtain rods too!
What a fun idea!! My son has a bamboo stick he cleaned really well, ready for some paint on it now:O)
What a great idea! Love the result, and I bet the process was fun, too.
LOVE this! Another perfect project for kids! and to think, Mermaids and Mamas is in the middle of the woods...I think we'd have no problem gathering sticks. :-) Thanks for another great idea!
this reminds me of my kidhood pet rocks. i painted 50 rocks in my driveway and tried to sell them on the street corner. good memories of painting nature.
:)
So crafty & clever! Great idea... thank you for sharing.
Awesome idea! Were headed out for yard work now and I love a good artsy excuse!
What a great idea... fantastic : )
What a happy looking bunch!
oh. my. gorgeous. totally gonna try to get the boyz to do this with me. wish me luck.
Ooooh! Absolutely delicious. We have so many fallen limbs in our back yard that I could build an entire painted-stick house....
hmmmm.....mommy's retreat house....
Aimee, If I could just tap into your brain for an hour, I'd have a month's worth of ideas!! This is so cool!! How do you come up with your ideas??? What fun :D
Lovely colours on a stick! You don't have Easter bouquets like we have? In that case you should decorate them with colourful feathers for next week! :-)
Oh how I love these!! I love the idea to use them for a curtain rod!
Fun project, lots better than yardwork! I did something similar a while back but wrapped the branches in strips of fabric. They were so pretty I propped them in a tall vase to admire. Of course they're all broken now. I might have to go wrap and paint some more!
Well, color me impressed!
fab idea!!!!
I need to try this too!! I love color and since my painting ablities are simple I need to get out and gather some interesting sticks as I walk!
What a great idea!!! They look very happy and festive. But wait....you stole the sticks from your kids???? HAHAHA! Aah, I see it did not matter. They were very happy painting on that very large surface. Win-win!
so cute and inspiring!
Love the idea! =)
Thank you!
Love this!
Painting sticks is a great idea. My friends are always chewing on my favourite ones that I use for drawing in the sand. Maybe if I paint them they'll get the point and leave them alone. Thanks for the idea!
Tchao-wow,

Love this idea!!
you wont believe this, but we did this just the other day too! Except we used the longest sticks we could find and they will be stakes for the garden. (assuming this hellish weather will end eventually, and bring growing-type weather, dammit)
love your sticks! What a fun idea!
LOVE your blog, stumbled upon it lately and really enjoy the bright colors and abstract shapes, the artsy sticks are so fun! Living in Hawaii and posting abstract art on my blog, check it out and tell me what you think if you get a chance, sending ALOHA your way: http://psychedelicwaterfall.blogspot.com
I found you on Pinterest and just had to visit your blog. Kansas huh! Was it maybe Manhattan? I am in Junction City. Daughter and son-in-law live in MAnhattan. You are definitely in a whole new element. Hope you enjoy. Love your blog. And the painted sticks will be added to my cub scout "easy peasy" and messy nature craft ideas.
Hi Teresa! We were in Lawrence, KS -- the other college town! But no longer :(
Glad you found me -- thanks for stopping by!
