While I was driving home from Chicago last week - most of the 575 miles in pea soup thick fog - a feeling of ease was flowing beneath the white knuckles on the steering wheel. For as much as I've tried to bloom where I'm planted, in truth I thrive when I'm on the go. It goes far beyond a desire to travel; the need for movement is packed into every molecule of my body. Whenever I finish one trip my head is spinning about the next; often I don't unpack my suitcase or cosmetic case in between trips for fear of adhering to a place too permanently; I dream of the open mind and the moments of clarity that come with being in a constant state of transition. If my friends and family didn't keep my wandering spirit properly anchored, I'd probably drift off into space.

i totally understand what you're saying......i'm just so happy that you stay rooted in one place long enough to keep sharing these fabulous doodles with us!!! xox, :))
Great doodle! Yes, I've been this way most of my life too...I like being on the move tho I've had to slow down some, lol.
I found you from Pumpkin Delight. I love your site. I’m going to poke around a little bit, but don’t worry I’ll put everything back where I found it!!
Here, here! I'm with ya' Amy! Every time I return from a trip , I can't wait to start planning a new one. Love change, newness, research and exploration. The flip side of that, of course, is that I can be SUCH a homebody and couch potato when I'm not a-travelling.
i feel very much the same way
your artwork shouts out your soul's desire.
Ahhhh Aimee....you must've been a Gypsy in a previous life!!! LOL!!
I love to go on trips....but then I love to settle in at home when I return!!
Heheheheh! My husband is just like you. Always planning the next adventure. I seem to have let him take over that aspect to my personality. Your post is good reminder to honor my own adventures as well.

business trip? family trip? or running away from home trip? (ha! that's a joke)...
Your new doodle is great! my wandering spirit has been temporarily squashed, out of necessity, but I find it increasing difficult to bloom where I am planted. For the time being, I'll just keep repeating that to myself....
Don't drift off into space Aimee - we'd miss you!
My goodness, this is exactly me! So nice to see someone else feeling the same way, as crazy as it makes me feel sometimes!
I love how you write. The last sentence is excellent in particular. and split-pea soup thick fog... what an image!
I love how you've expressed exactly what I feel as well. Strangely I am reading a novel at the moment about a free-spirit who is stuggling with the mundanity of real life when all she wants is to travel again and it as been stirring up all the old itchy feet syndrome I used to feel. I love my life for the most part but sometimes really wish we could just sell up everything and go travelling instead of working 9-5 to pay the bills :0/
:-) I see you floating with a string tied to your finger :-)
I love this piece, and your words are very poetic

I too have a gypsy spirit but have somehow managed to stay pretty rooted. May you have many wonderful driving adventures in 2011!
Ah, this is beautiful! I imagine that treetop floating off into the sky. I'm afraid I'm the exact opposite. I am the roots. I long to grow old in one place. Kind of like mold.
i'm grateful for that
moving nature of yours
because you shared your tree
with me up herrrrrre! xox
This is a funny reminder that everyone is different (thank goodness!). I like traveling just fine, but I'd much rather be home, or in one spot....
I though it might go away by now but I think this wandering thing is the only permanent fixture.
Aimee, you are not alone. I'm in a state of transition and so much so that I'll be making a move to the opposite side of the country. I've always been one who wanted to travel and live here and there. The sad thing was that the people in my life (family and friends) always asked why I wanted to move like it was a bad thing. I guess you gave me the answer. It is in my nature. Thanks for sharing.
oh my goodness, i totally agree. though the past few years i've taken fewer big trips than i used to, but still many smaller trips and moving every few years. i wish i could stay rooted. maybe oneday. love this post.
