around this time of year we get saddled with two sense-destroying annoyances, cicadas and algae. first the cicadas drive us deaf and then the algae come to party. they multiply. they plug up the river and the lakes. then they make our drinking water smell and taste like swamp gas. believe me, it is the hottest discussion topic in town. since someone (not naming names) demolished the purifier on our refrigerator well over eight months ago, and we haven't bothered to get it fixed, we are getting a direct assault from the tap. one friend of mine figures that she'll at least get a dose of nutrients and possibly even some photosynthesis in her americano until the algae go along their merry way. but i am not that strong, so on the eve of the worst of it, i skipped the water and went for the beer instead.

that's my girl!
Sounds like a good solution to me. Cheers!
Right there with ya. A fun, albeit (I hope) very short chapter in the fine history of otherwise-yummy Lawrence, KS H20
Ugh!! So sorry about your filter, sounds like me though, I'd be waiting until the last minute to fix something like that too!
But hey, Beer is healthy, it has pops and barley, right?
Too funny! Beer is a meal in itself -- if you run out of food or water, it is the perfect replacement. Hope that water situations gets straightened out soon, though.

wow. I have never heard of a direct line algae attack! gross. When I lived in southern IN we had "boil orders" because chemical crop run-off had seeped into the drinking water. Ale=good solution.
good choice! :D
I've been wondering how much of town has this stink water. It's been going on all week and we've resorted to buying gallon jugs of water.
This illustration/poem is so cute!
I just found your blog and it's so fun! I absolutely adore your doodles, they're fantastic :) I'll definitely be back soon!
Well, you have found the perfect excuse for drinking more beer! I had better hide this one from L'Usband ...
You made the right call my friend. I say stick with the ale until it gets fixed! I love the doodle from your last post!!
I wonder what beer made with algae water would taste like? Maybe an experiment for my Mother Earth Chemistry class next year? ;-)
Spirited Aimee..Can allways count on you to turn a sticky situation into a doodlicious piece of art.

an ale is always 'the best' right?! :)
Works for me!
HA! So funny!

Oh dear. I hadn't noticed the swamp water. Perhaps that's why our guests didn't drink much of the tap water we served them on Saturday...
Always the exemplary hosts, we are!
you always find the pot o' gold at the end of the rainbow.......(and maybe if you drink enough of the beer, those cicadas won't sound so loud.....). xoxo, :))
p.s. LOVE your doodle.....you can even make algae look fun!! xo
cheers to that!
Good for you! Love the doodles that follow on the previous entry! I can't even believe it is the end of August and the FAIR starts in two days! Where did the time go?? Bottoms up to you Aimee, may your water turn back to normal soon!
Haha :-) Cheers!
I hope you get your watersituation back on track soon :-)
I just want to say I'm ready for the stink water to go away, aren't you? Blech.
Eww! We have that problem here in East Texas, too. Some years, as the locals say, the lake (our water supply) "turns over". For weeks, tap water tastes like the underside of a boat. An old rotting wooden boat. I hasn't happened this year, and now I regret the loss of an excuse to drink more beer.
Chlorophyll! I love envisioning you drinking beer instead of water, at every thirsty moment. If we were neighbors, I would totally be drunk by 11 am. You'd catch me typing on those typewriters in that yard full of typewriters and riding in the homeless trannie's pram. It would be grand.
