cue up the manic month of july and push play! between a load of maps and a bunch of greeting cards, i have fifty illustrations to finish between now and august 15. now how is that for procrastination! honestly, i don't think i'll ever be cured of waiting until the last minute. it's stressful, but it's a good stressful. i haven't found many motivators more effective than time biting me in the butt.
up next - how i ended up in a trombone warehouse parking lot last night for three hours. it involved my car and an explosive painting fiesta!

so - I always wondered how you put the color on the back of your artwork... now, I think I know?? Do you blot, rub, or smear ink pads on your paper?
what sort of paper do you use? watercolor? sketching paper? or ???
love your art doodlings.
anxious to hear your trombone story.
thanks christine! yup - i just smear the inkpads around. here's a tutorial i did a while back:

Yay! I'm not the only one afflicted by the procrastination bug!!!! Sorry you have it, but good to know I'm in such talented company :0
Looking forward to hearing more about your project :)
I am such a procrastinator it's not even funny. What *is* funny is that my mom for some reason always spells it "prograstinate". :)
Good luck with your deadlines! I am sure you will get it all done!
Deadlines are wonderful focussers and enablers of house-cleaning-avoidance! Woot!
As the wife of a professional trombonist...I need to hear more about a trombone warehouse!
Good Luck!
I am guilty of the same approach to most everything....why do it now, when you can wait until the eleventh hour? Hee hee. And this trombone warehouse story has me intrigued. Do tell!
50 illustrations? First I read 15 ...
Go go go ... when you get into it it will just be a flow!
can't wait to hear the sotry! good luck with the deadlines...
You have said it! I am a great believer in procrastination - it really helps to keep me to deadlines. I've never quite worked out how it works, but if I procrastinate, I finish about the same time as when I start early on a project, and I almost always get a better result. It's weird. Maybe it's all in my head. I do know that my procrastinative (is there such a word?) habits drive the people around me mad. Good luck with the 50 illustrations!
Oh my gosh! 50 illustrations!!! I'll just stand out of your way so you can get them done.
I'm feeling a bit lazy here.
Sure you'll have time to fill us in on the trombone warehouse story?
i can't wait to find out why you even need fifty illustrations by then!
really, i am all for developmental delays. it's fun stuff, too, which makes the procrastination much easier! the maps are for jill berry's personal geographies book, and the greeting cards i've been working on for a while, but i won't know until next year whether the line is a go or not. crossing fingers!
I find the best way to deal with procrastination is to find anti-procrastination quotes, print them up in pretty fonts, post them around the room, grab a bite to eat and then return to the original project three hours later. (Oops...were you looking for procrastination tips or anti-procrastination tips?)
i just love the sight of all of that rainbow goodness waiting for your doodle brilliance!! and, oh so appropriate that your starbucks cup is right in the middle of all the fun!!! have fun!!! xox, :))
Oh I hear you! I am one of those people who absolutely needs a deadline to get things finished. Trombones are optional.
Best of luck with your projects! I seem to work the same way. Maybe we can start a club!
:)
more more more, tell me more about the trombones!
and now i understand the procrastination...
i am having focus issues, too, cuz i don't want to do icons for the client that won't go away, and i don't want to work on tedious boxes that aren't quite fitting together. where should i browse to next...
Ahhhh yes. An artist after my own heart. Nothiing like a good dealine bearing down on me to get me to actually do something. I wonder what it is that gets others to do things BEFORE those last grains in the hourglass?
Uh, trombone warehouses exist?
I think you are going to be very, very busy for a while! I enjoy just seeing those colored sheets of paper! Do you do a lot of paper cutting besides inking and drawing?
Just found your blog. I look forward to coming back for a visit. Good luck with your art!
procrastination is la ninja's middle name too, hun. oh well...
trombones? nearly forgot they existed under the current vuvuzela madness. go on, then, don't blow us off and tell us about 'em, then ;P
Love the mystery of painting in the trombone warehouse parking lot--do tell!
Also, can't imagine why your greeting cards wouldn't be a go! Doodle on!
