stick a fork in it

fork-in-the-cake

no, it's no one's birthday but my mind is still on cake today. what's your favorite flavor? do you go for a sheet cake or layer? bakery or homemade? the frosting - buttercream or that whipped garbage? and how long do you keep up the charade of cutting dainty slices before you give up and start eating directly from the cake?

(now a magnet and a print.)

My mom taught me to eat straight from the cake when there was no company around. I like chocolate of any kind, and homemade chocolate frosting. Delightful work you continue to do.

Do you know about cake balls? They are crazy popular here in Dallas. Basically, you bake a box cake, grind it up, mix it with frosting, roll into balls, freeze, then dip in chocolate and decorate with a little bit of nuts, sprinkles or whatever.

Me? I'm all about brownies.

I confess, I am a lazy baker and don't often bake cakes from scratch. I am absolutely crazy about the coca cola cake they serve at Cracker Barrel restaurants. Big slabs of chocolate cake with a full 1/2 inch of chocolate coca cola frosting. It's so sweet a person HAS to cut the sugar with vanilla ice cream. *ahem*

I never eat directly from the cake I don't think. Does that make me a cake prude? I have had so much cake in the last few days that I am actually sick of cake. I normally love it though. My favourites are banana, lemon drizzle, coffee and walnut, Victoria sponge, but I will eat almost any cake. I like your cake illustration-we shoud have it up in the kitchen at work-that is where I consume the most cake.

Around here, cake enters the fork zone after everyone has been served once! We love lemon, coconut and chocolate varieties of all sorts. YUM. Time to bake, thank you very much.

I love chocolate cupcakes. Sometime with a little vanilla frosting. Usually plain.

Yesterday I caved in and had a Blizzard from DQ! Divine. Ice Cream is my weakness!

Oh wow, I have been craving cake for about an hour now, and I *never* crave cake! And now I find this blog, and it looks like a sign that I should bake now. :)

I like those grocery store cakes with the mile thick buttercream frosting. If its a sheet cake, I'll be taking a corner piece, please. Later, I'll stick my fork directly into the cake.

After company is gone, I definitely eat directly from the cake :) I love homemade chocolate cake with homemade whipped frosting... the kind with egg whites in it. YUM!
Love you work, btw :)

Chocolate cake is my favorite breakfast food EVER! And, oh yes, the fork goes directly into the cake.

I love cake!
Yesterday we had a wedding shower cake.
Today, I bought lemon cake.
We have birthday cakes.
We have Un-birthday cakes.
We have Thanksgiving cake, every time we have a thanksgiving dinner which could be any time we want to give thanks.
My favorite cake is a chocolate fondant from a French bakery, but it closed down and the French returned to Paris.
I like any cake that is not very sweet.
I hate cakes that discolor the lips and tongue with their icing.
I love cake doughnuts.
Ooooh, I feel so full just from enumerating the above cakes.

Ahhhh... Cake. A favorite around our house. Every morning when I ask Harper what she wants for breakfast, her answer is "cake". When I tell her she's having toast (or cereal or fruit or whatever), her answer (wise little 2 year old) is, "AND CAKE!"

mmmm cake... 2 layered (for all the more frosting layers) and mmm chocolate of course, lemon (oh yum), and german chocolate that my gran used to make... chocolate & coconut and caramel frosting... thanks for the cake

Oh, cake, cake is just awesome! My fave: Boston creme "pie". THis is what I always ask for as a birthday cake each year!

I must admit I don't usually take a fork to the cake - if my boys saw me do that...aiyiyi, it would be gone in no time!

Anything home made - eccles cakes, carrot cake, apple cake, lemon cake, danish pastries anything fruity, not so keen on chocolate!

Hey Aimee! This post made me laugh out loud! I LOVE cake!!! Almost all kinds...but I don't like that light fluff that some grocery stores call frosting. I need buttercream. We have a wonderful bakery in our town that makes the yummiest lemon raspberry cake with vanilla buttercream. To die for. Have a good weekend!

We have a tradition in my family of Confetti Cream cake for birthdays. The cake itself is 4 layers and dense, not very sweet, and better on the second day when it has soaked up the frosting. Because the frosting and filling is made of whipped cream, cream cheese, sour cream, walnuts, chocolate, and cherries. It might even be better on the third day, but it doesn't last that long. If you stuck a fork directly into it, you'd probably be forking someone else in the family!

i like cupcakes because i don't have to slice them (lazy) or make a mess with the cake knife and portion control is much easier! although, i do love those pepperidge farm frozen cakes and slicing my way through them. in fact, i honestly think i'm going to get one, today. chocolate sounds good. enjoy your weekend!

classic yellow from a box. ( I have tried, in vein, to make a better cake from scratch). Layer, and butter cream. That whipped crap makes me gag. And I do a good middle road, as far as my cake eating habit goes. No dainty slices here--I go for a hefty hunk, but rarely stick the for directly into the cake.

Buttercream, thick and unapologetic on birthday cake, and cream cheese frosting on carrot cake, okay now I am hungry and slightly obsessing....

Monkey Mind said...

Buttercream all the way. I hold up the silly pretense of cutting the cake until the bitter end. I think I can fool myself that somehow I'm taking reasonable measures to ensure I don't gobble the whole thing down. So I just go back to the cake 20 times in a half hour. Some plan, huh? Next time I'll just poke the fork right in and get it over with.

Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhhh. I am SO suggestible around the topic of sweets. A friend gave me some hand lotion that smelled like cupcakes and I couldn't use the darn stuff because I became obsessive about finding a cupcake to eat as soon as I got a whiff. Same here...I am now madly desirous of a big big of white cake with whipped cream icing.

Aaaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhh!

Chocolate everything all the way. My daughter is all over sticking a fork in any cake and gobbling down.

OM NOM NOM NOM NOM MmmmmmmmmMMmm nom nom nom oh yes, yes, YES, YESSSSsss. Oooohhh yeah, one fork is for sissies. TWO fisted, baby! Go get your own cake. This one's mine.

This "stick a fork in it" made me think of both of my kids first birthdays, where they stuck their HANDS into the cake. It seemed fitting.

My favorite is Germans chocolate cake (layers) with coconut pecan frosting, and the best thing is to freeze it, and then eat it by little slivers....

Stacie @ azoho.com said...

Cake balls...by the handful. They already have the buttercream frosting in them. With a chocolate shell. Yes. Cake balls.

BUTTERCREAM all the way.
I love all cakes especially the cheap ones from the grocery store, I am no princess(:
