what lurks ahead

lurks-ahead2

in between howling and gasping for air from the responses to the last post i managed to squeeze out this scathing doodlerant at my procrastinating self. i could no longer put it off. it's time to pay those bills! renew those license plates! return those library books! put that slop bucket of receipts into quicken! and good grief, for once and for all, quit buying new clothes just because i don't want to do laundry! tomorrow maybe. i'm tired...

Yup, you said it. Up late, starting, stopping, avoiding. Doing the dishes, checking my google reader feed (yeah! a new artsyville post!). But actual writing tasks? Not getting done.

I love it that you said, "Sack up"...good Lord, you have a way with words! This really hit the spot today, so thanks :)

ha! well, I guess you said, "show some sack" and "suck it up"...Tara translation: Sack Up. Same diff. :s

I can go both ways on this--yes, get the chore done and be done with it, but, I don't know....it's spring, and it's better to be outside now, while the world is so glorious. My house is a complete and total disaster because the only time we're inside is to dump our stuff, and then to sleep (and eat and make dirty dishes). But it's supposed to rain soon, so that might be the day for housecleaning.

Love the doodle!

Hey, while you're at it - can you call my credit card company and remind them they said they wouldn't up my APR because I typed the payment in wrong?

It's the little things that take the longest....

It really annoys me the way the what you have to do prevents you from doing what you want to do :(

STOP-DESCRIBING-STOP-LA-NINJA-STOP.
STOP-STOP-STOP-IT. STOP.

(obviously need that print bloody tattooed onto my bloody bottom so that it hurts every time I sit on it to procrastinate behind this screen instead of going and doing the stuff and things that really need doing. stop.
tra la la la. any chance for an bum-size decal of it?)

I liked it! :)

Wow, you just described my whole week. And today going to have to be the day, isn't it?

I'll take a bum-sized one too, please. HA! That's a funny mental picture. Maybe a poster instead, since I try to avoid looking at my bum at all costs.

oh no, Aimee, please stay a little longer and dance in those daisies. Bask! Do bask :-))) I'll bask with you.
A little person said to me today: "This day is never EVER coming back". I said What a wise thing to see. Did you enjoy the day? She said It was PERFECT!
:-)))

Damn, I can SO relate. I tend to do better when I'm stressing at the last minute, sweating it out, and asking myself "why didn't I start this earlier?" So frustrating...

Thanks for the shout-out...appreciate your offer of the link! Will be posting a sign-up soon!

We've got like our own little Procrastinators Anonymous support group right here. I'm so guilty. You have such a way of saying specifically what we all feel. :)

Cindy Pestka said...

So, so perfectly said! Thank you for the timely reminder. And what constantly amazes me, is once I've gotten 'procrastination' out of the way, the thing itself always goes faster than I think it would. But when I procrastinate, my brain adds up the time I procrastinated PLUS the time it took me to do the actual thing and it makes a one-hour job feel like a WEEK-long endeavor!

Janie Husband said...

amen!!!!! just discovered and loving your blog..;)

cindy said...

by now, i hope you're done with those chores and on to the next fantastic doodle. clearly, you make these just for me ;)!

I keep ordering out because I don't want to go grocery shopping. This, among the 563 other things I have been procrastinating about. great post!

Lori said...

Yes this is me too. My books from the library were late a week ago. I suck at doing things on time. Thanks, nice to know it is not just me!

tink-ink said...

I'm starting to wonder if it's just us artists (and art lovers) who like to procrastinate. I'd like to think not. Wouldn't it be so very boring if everyone "just got their shit done" and didn't take time to do, well, ..nothing?

I'm reading this as I stare across the room at the five loads of laundry in various stages of foldedness. :-) Man, wish I had a magic wand! Enjoy your blog very much!

Tita Mama said...

I'm with you--I just want to dance in the daisies. Just hurry and do all those chores as fast as you can so that you can get back to the important stuff!

Karen Blados said...

laundry ... i hate laundry ... and yet i must do the laundry. ERGH!

funny thing is the last few times i've folded as it comes out of the dryer and hey, it hasn't seemed like such a time-sucking, annoying chore. and for once, the laundry basket was empty ... for about 15 minutes, but hey, i'll take it.

love the illo!

Nina Mata said...

I love this lol...I was going to get back to work because this reminded me I've been procrastinating for about a good 2hrs now but couldnt leave without saying hi! Hahah and don't worry, I'll only take out my utensils and hot sauce for perps! (or if there happens to be a hotdog nearby) heheh xoxo

Eliza Lynn Tobin said...

ha ha! this was awesome! I am a procrastination queen! If I put half as much energy into anything as I put into procrastinating, I would be one very productive little engine! p.s...the secret to making my mandalas is SHARPIE! yup...just a little paint and sharpie, swirled all around. And then I go at it with an exacto knife...and sometimes I wish they were edible, so i could eat them too...

Lauren said...

hi! did you disappear from Facebook?

S.E.Minegar said...

ah, the piles of indecision.

Francesca said...

The tomorrow gal would be me. Except that my desk is so cluttered with receipts, mail, bills and must-do-it-nows that I can't play at shifting piles back and forth anymore. It's today for, I'm afraid. But with a smile, after reading this post:)

steve said...

Haha!! Yes, I can indeed relate. So well put/illustrated Aimee!

Bella Sinclair said...

Gawd, I love it when you spew such colorful angst! Heeheee, show some sack...and the sack's in a sack...hahahaha

My list of ugly chores keeps growing and growing, and I don't want to face it. I'm trying to make a point of doing at least one dreaded chore a day. Just one. But I don't always make it. I need to grow a sack.

oh, I GET THE FEELING. SAME HERE!

I absolutely DETEST doing the laundry and there are about 7 loads waiting for me tomorrow morning. Thank god my husband is the checkbook nazi or else there would be BIG trouble in little China :))

Katrina said...

What is quicken? This is excellent-and so appropriate for me at the moment, though I am slowly starting on all those tasks I just DON'T WANT TO DO! But walking in the woods-or daisies is always much more attractive!
