collage! i had almost forgotten how therapeutic it is to rip up stuff and put things together from different worlds. my collage supply is minimal now, just down to one drawer - patterned papers from jess gonacha swift and daisy janie, magazines i picked up in buenos aires years ago, my inked/painted papers, scraps of things from the library book sale, and other bits and pieces i couldn't part with. i only kept things i really loved. oddly enough, now that i've gotten rid of almost everything, it seems like i have more to work with than ever! anyway, i've been writing like a maniac this past week and needed a colorful and papery diversion for a few hours. i glued the pieces on cardstock, chopped each sheet into 8 bookmarks, slapped on a few coats of gel medium and called it a night. creative explosion over and done - gluey, kitschy, messy fun.

its amazing what good organization will lead to! These are fantastic. I love the vintage magazine pieces!
Collage is such a great medium and a freeing process! Love what you've done here and now I want to go play with my scissors, glue, and paper!
:)
Very fun! My little book was my first gel medium adventure. How do you use it? Do you think it out first? I just found it really gloppy and my OC-tendencies couldn't handle it. ;-)
gloppy is a great word for it! i'm not very good at the application - it glubs up and i always see brush marks on the finish. but it does the deed. and nope, i don't think out collage too much beforehand. i think it's more fun just to stick it on, chop it up and see what comes out of it!
These are great Aimee! I am all for getting sticky and need to do it more often - it really is so cathartic. Sown to only one drawer for collage supplies... I'm seriously impressed! And these just prove that it's definitely quality and not quantity that matters... they're lovely :) x
Very cool. I love the colors and inspiration this is!
looks like fun! I love all those papers you have in your collection! thanks for sharing!
Nice work there with the paper and glue! Such colourful fun!

i love these so so much!
Super Duper Cool! I was reading the post and I was thinking: these can be perfect bookmarks... Super smart ;)
Hi Aimee,
These reminded me of bookmarks, too.
I just love them. I haven't done collage in awhile, but this makes me want to grab the gel medium and scraps and go nuts.
xoxo
You know you've had a good art day when your fingers are covered with mod podge or gesso. Here's to endless days of messy art!
You are obviously having so much fun! Oh my how fun is that. I could never come up with ideas like that. You just whip them up like cool whip. Hmn, all of a sudden I want ice cream. Your blog is like sherbet YUM!
I'm so glad you said it was gluey and messy. I was just thinking how neat everything looked. when I get out the gel everything gets stuck to everything else - but it is fun.
Terrific - they look fab together!! Love your last post too!
what interesting, crazy yet perfectly paired bits these are. glued, wedded bliss. sounds like you need more papers!
p.s. bosshole? eyes went doink as re-read, then i laughed my butthole off. am i allowed to say that here?
you can type butthole, bosshole, or asshole here. it's all good with me!
Those are great little bookmarks and have me itching to do some collage work. Your recent de-cluttering and organization efforts are motivating me to start tackling my own crazy stash of things...glad to see it led to increased creative energy and output. So just curious, do you have all of your cool collage paper stuff all in one drawer or divided into several groupings?
...and totally amazing result! love these collages.
i can see how these were the selection of papers left that you loved! & love how you organized the presentation into strips of four. how fun & delicious looking! colornutrition.
It's strange - or maybe it isn't, that when someone creates in a different medium to their usual one - they still retain their unique style. These are lovely Aimee and have quite a retro feel.
i love these aimiee. i'm so bad at collaging it's bizarre, although i'm quite good at gluing my fingers together.
I don't know if it is therapeutic, but it's a beautiful and interesting work ! And your pictures are pretty good lessons !!!
i guess the creative explosion isn't quite over and done - that drawer has come back out twice more to make more. it's satisfying some odd need at the moment, this collage bug. the first bookmarks wound up being too stiff because i used a big brush and went overkill with the gel. i have problems with overdo. the second and third rounds went just right - i used a smaller brush and two thin coats of the golden semi-gloss gel medium. doesn't take much!
I'm a huge fan of making collages :)
messy fun indeed!! :)
By promulgating your process and perfect product, you've prompted me to proffer my profuse praise and proclaim the proud proof of your prowess as a prolific Paper Princess - Pronto!
Perfect, and i liked your daughters story.
oozing with creativity ... and colorful as always.
we need a break from order. But we need order. It is like Shiva with collage. You dance and destroy - and make new at the same time..
I love this. Where did you find the papers in the 6th photo?
thanks, all, and gracias gm glimmerglass for that glowing goodness! i have the pieces separated in ziploc bags for now, but i know myself, they won't stay that way because i'm not that organized. just as long i can keep it to one drawer, that's all i'm striving for.
sandy, the papers in the sixth photo are ones i painted and inked a few years ago - i might do a tutorial on how to make them at some point. very easy to do!
and color nutrition - dancing and destroying to make new - such great words for collage!
Hey there girl...looks so nice...Long time since I made a collage...love it but hate the clue...haha
What a fantastic idea Aimee. I love collage and playing with paper in any form really. I made my Christmas cards like that this year. Lovely book marks.
Awesome! I LOVE collaging!
oh how creative and fun this seems! I love collage:)
nice header! and that collage is great!
Fun and inspiring Aimee! Makes me want to cut and paste too.
Beautiful piles of paper and great photos! I wonder if I would feel that I had more if I sorted away stuff? I have such a hard time throwing anything away, I loove my papers! :-)
Oh, Aimee, I am SO sorry for not having passed by sooner...I think I missed a couple of weeks of posts.
Love the collage...you sound more organised than I am!
I adore your writing...and the piece on writing a letter...LOVE it...and the NO book...
HUGS dear lady.
Char.
ooo... how fun... and as always, regardless of what it is you are attempting, what you end up with is fabulous and gorgeous and amazing... how do you do that!!!???? ...
此處是值得一探究竟的好部落格!! ........................................
Great collage. I want to to get back to a little bit of that. And little is the word. I love very small collage pieces. Fun!!
Aimee, glad you liked my blog. Yours is amazing. Love the bright colors and all the info. Collage is so fun. Yes, check out Powell Gardens
how did i miss this? these are fab- really- i can´t stop looking at them! love the combos! hugs!
I've been following your blog for a bit but I found this post from Kelly Kilmers blog. I love the collages and the book marks are a great idea! I follwed your link to the painter papers and mini books... do you by any chance have a post on how you put the books together? I'd love to make some smallish books but I'm not sure what's the easiest way to make them.
Thanks, Emie
Mmmmmmmm, paper. And what's the best sidedish for paper but glooooooooo. This looks like a very liberating project. No rigid guidelines, no step-by-step. Just do.
Isn't it funny how too many choices bog us down to inaction. Maybe having limited supplies forces us to be more creative. Brain surge!
I love collage - it is my best thing ever. Are we weird or what?
Oh collage is my fave!!! You are totally speaking my language! What fun! (Three exclamation points no less)
these are awesome! what a great way to unleash some creative abandon. :-)
Awesomeness!
Amaaaaaaaazing! As always. :) And look at all these comments! You are seriously rocking it, sister.
these are so sweet Aimee.......what a wonderful way to use up some of that scrap paper you have!
Love it!
