getting out of my own way

joanne at breathe as me always has wise things to say, but the observation she made a few weeks ago about having to 'get out of her own way' made me slam my coffee cup on the desk and shout, "yes! she's got it!" finally, i have an explanation for 95% of the stuff i plan to do but don't, and then find some poor hapless chump of an excuse to blame for my inaction or distraction. so i asked her permission to run with the phrase and then word-mashed it into my own warped version, which i plan to look at every single day. that is, unless i get in my own way.

True, true! On the other hand, if I don't listen to myself, I may regret it too. See?! It's never easy. Haha!

oh aimee... this is such a lovely and colorful piece... thank you so much for being so kind with your words and link...

it's so incredibly true that most of what stands in the way is our own self-defeating thoughts... and i agree with Ces... it IS about listening to our heart... which so often means getting out of our own heart's way :)

your talent just amazes and inspires me every day...

That could so be my motto - my mind is always swirling with new and different things to do and then reality sets in when I count the hours in the day! :) M

I'm sorry about the misspelling. It's morning and I'm only just getting into my coffee. :P

AIMEE. AIMEE. AIMEE.

I will not misspell Aimee's name.
I will not misspell Aimee's name.
I will not misspell Aimee's name.

My own... that's another matter. But not Aimee's. :P

romilly, you crack me up! my first and last names have been butchered my entire life, so i barely noticed... one of these days i may swap the whole thing for an easy, monosyllabic moniker...

Yeah, that can be most difficult for artists - trying a whole new approach to things and moving out of comfort zones. I'm feeling the urge myself, but excuses and procrastination always seem to take over. Best of luck Aimee!

why is it so hard to get out of the way?

Right on the money! This seems to be one of my biggest stumbling blocks at the moment. I swear I feel like I'm headed for a mid-life crisis!

That's PERfect! Now what's the cure?!

I love it!

Oh yeah, that applies to so very much in my studio, and in my life... Now, are you going to be putting that in your shop so we can all look at it everyday?

woo-hoo! I'd slam my coffee cup down with you...but I can't risk spilling any!

yes, it's always good to be aware of it... a lot of the time we are the ones who make the obstacles...
great!

Very, very true! I am usually blocking myself with talk - "it's not good enough", "people will laugh", "i am weird", "I don't have enough time", etc. etc. I read Joanne's original piece as well - good advice!

I relate too Aimee! BIG time. I wonder why we do this to ourselves when it's so obviously counter-productive? Good to have this reminder, thank you!
