a doorknob painted with eyeshadow. heaps of laundry piled behind a closed door that will not stay closed for much longer. a little girl who learned how to ride a bike, tell time and take care of her glasses. a woman who installed herself in the middle of our alley with a good book, oblivious to the cars trying to pass. the man on 8th & massachusetts who glanced over his shoulder for a second, then popped a balloon with a cigarette butt. the lady who wandered through the neighborhood peddling two pieces of fruit, one in each hand. an annoying, mind-numbing children's tv show. closure on something. a check in the mail. an overdue library notice. lush green grass, cloudy skies, and strong coffee thanks to the guy who tossed in an extra shot this morning. delicious bread from the local bakery and goofy music. sweet little voices and faces that remind me why i'm here. all little things that make life big. i need to notice them more often.

Wow, a lot of drama.
I frequently think when reading your posts about the cliche about girls being so much less trouble than boys (one friend of mine said a gorilla could have raised her first child, a girl, followed by a little boy who Likes to Test)...evidently not always true.
:)...like...and I just look for your WEEKWORD..hahahaha...
yes, noticing is always a good thing and documenting 'the noticed' even better!
oh, nothing that dire, artsparker - think of little girls as a good dose of sugar and a LOT of spice ... they keep me in the moment and keep the creative sparks a-firing...
fruenswerk, how about this: i *HEART* your drawings :)
this is beautifully written, aimee, almost like a poem-and very true. have a good weekend.
best from berlin,anja
...the man who popped the balloon with a cigarette butt...
Amy, you are so wonderful, just wonderful. I love your work!
Thank you for the dose of being in the moment.... it's so easy to find myself stuck in the past, trying to catch up or way too far ahead of myself. When in truth, all the really big important little moments happen in the now.
Your illustration is perfect.
You just put into beautiful words and art how I feel about life and the world we live in. There is so much to look for if we just open our eyes. I love this!
Your world is like one big Coen Brothers movie, in my book. Tons of interesting characters and little oddities that make you smile and just wonder. In that regard, Lawrence is just as exotic as Mozambique.
I love that balloon popping guy, too! HA!
We always stop to smell the roses at the grocery store- haha.
Nice sentiment. Very thoughtful.
well written words! I think living IN life, smelling, tasting and notecing is the way to go!
To be in the small is big.
thank you for the reminder, sweet aimee. it makes each moment feel more unique to notice little things like this, and so much more interesting! i'd love to peek at the world through your eyes for a minute!
yes, to be able to see, but still not be looking at things. Happens so often when we are preoccupied.
Yes indeed! This is great Aimee, and your post somewhat reminds me of that song that was big in the early nineties - the one about the girl whose hair got wet - can't remember the name (Suzanne Vega ?).
Wonderful, lovely, thank you for reminding me to look around. My dad always says "if you always keep your nose to the grindstone all you'll get is a flat nose" (not sure who he was quoting)
Maybe I'll avoid looking for laundry though, it always finds me.
verrrry nice details (especially the end... i just melted)... it IS a poem...
i think i mostly was sleep walking through the weekend...
:) ... gorgeous artwork to go with the inspiring poetry...
xo
love this!
for me photography makes me stop and take the details in, even when i leave my lumix at home, i still see amazing details now- and the make life!
