why walk when you can drive a fish, putter along in a UFO, or drag garbage cans behind your bike? here are a few of the arted-up wheelables from the annual art tougeau parade on saturday - i felt so ordinary walking home on my two boring feet after that.
and now - it's time to reveal the fake. the naughty words about the garbage truck were mine. i put my art stuff on the roof of my car one day, forgot about it, took off, and came back just in time to watch the garbage truck run over it all.
everything else i overheard: i won't ever know why that guy walking around the lake won't have dr. pepper with lunch again, why that student was feeling fairly groovy when he strolled into z's divine espresso, or what kind of strange things happen in georgia. the piehole incident - yes! - did occur, a lovely exchange between someone who was trying to cross the street and a distracted motorist who only noticed her when he was in the middle of the intersection.
pklaw and doug, since neither of you underestimated my ability to swear at a garbage truck, i'll give you each a print. and since you were all good sports to hazard guesses, i used the random number generator to pick one more winner. yay, it is #5 (fruenswerk), which is so fitting because she started the weekword game. winners, please e-mail me your print choice and i'll get it to you pronto!

The Art Tougeau Parade is one of my fave events in Lawrence. You got some terrific pics of all the eclectic Lawrence folks.
"I'm feeling farily groovy today" after my lucky guess on the fake tags. You're a good storyteller so I had a good clue. It was great fun participating in wordweek.
What a cool parade! I like the UFO thingie best - I would love to whizz around in it, scaring people, and it even looks like it might handle a load of washing as well. I really liked your fake competition (that sounds wrong, but you know what I mean) - what a pity I saw it too late. Oh, I can quite understand cursing at garbage trucks! And other things. (I cursed at the embroidery workshop I attended a while ago, I just couldn't help it, I had sewn the damn flap to the front of the cushion for the third time, and before I knew it, it was out of my mouth. The other ladies looked very shocked, and I felt very embarrassed. Somehow a garbage truck sounds more curse-worthy than a needle, a length of embroidery thread and a pillow slip...)

A whole parade? We have a couple of art cars that get parked around town to entertain the tourists but a Whole Parade??? What fun.

Heh, your incident reminds me of my former apartment manager, who:
1,Went out leaving special Chinese herbs boiling on the stove, which eventually started putting huge clouds of smoke out her open window.
2, Passersby saw the smoke pouring out and called the fire dept.
3, Big firemen came & broke in the door with axes and turned the stove off
4, Manager returned and demanded to know who had called the fire dept.
5, Upon being told it was passersby, said "damned Chinese herbs".
oh MAN, if my town had something like this it would make it so much cooler. Ahhhh, to live in the suburbs. YOur life looks like so much fun, Aimee!

garbage truck was my second choice ;). those cars are fantastic, i love the fish. you live in the most creative town.
oh wow, this looks like it was a blast!! I especially like the fish one :) what a bunch of creative people! It makes me kinda want to decorate my own car.

Lovely car parade with different colours, shapes.....
Whoa, those are pretty zany. Still, those art cars are pretty creative. From the looks of it, the owners took quite a lot of time working on those vehicles, and they made pretty satisfactory results.
