mood management is a tricky business. sometimes i can stave off a lousy mood by changing my environment or playing games with my mind, but when a dear friend mentioned a few weeks ago that she was wallowing in her own funk, it hit me that, well, sometimes i too just have to dwell in the yuck for a bit for life to return to normal.

sometimes, stuff is crummy and you're better off just embracing it. occasionally, doing that alone makes me feel better. i think it's a control-thing ;)?
What a wonderful expression!! Funnily enough, when my husband is miserable, I call him Grumple Funks!!
Yes, wallowing can be a good thing.
oh, i agree.... i think that the funk is usually there to teach us something (that's what i tell myself... i was in a major funk last wed & thu). here's hoping your funk is one to grow on!! XOXO
yes, i agree. a funk is something you need so you appreciate the non-funk times :)
i've been wallowing in a funk for weeks now. hurry up spring, i need you to pull me out!
Oh, yes, yes, I agree with Krissy!
You know, the crows here are massive. And sometimes, when I take a walk, I can hear them talking. Sometimes they make a sound, and I SWEAR they're saying, "Wallow, wallow."
Yeah, I hate when this happens. What usually works for me is a good brisk walk around town. With the warmer weather and sights and sounds of life again, they've been especially helpful. Excellent work expressing this Aimee.
my sentiments exactly!
Is that a girl with pins on her head? I hope you'll be okay soon, after you embrace the funk!
yes, i think that the problems come when you try to resist the funk. if you just let it be, it eventually loses its power!
im with you - sometimes just embracing the funk makes it go away faster. and at least while im in it, i dont feel guilty if i just let myself be there.
a wise woman you are, aimee...
Yeah, self induced wallowing and a good dosage of self pity can feel really intense and masochistic-ly good. But I don't think that this would benefit anyone for too long a period... What I found a good solution, after a few days of real bitching, whining and wallowing in my own funk, is to write in the morning pages all that ails and eventually the mind and the hand writing gets bored of it and looks for solutions..
and yes, a good brisk walk in nature might clear the darkness...
Hope you'll see the sun soon Aimee!

Yep...me, too. Sometimes it just has to be done...go through it instead of around it. *shrug*
Peace & Love,

mood management... yeah, i could do with some of that...
I don't know if I get the idea... wallowing...
well, mood managing would be great to learn...
love it! and agree with cindy : quaint: sometimes it makes you feel better letting go and embracing it instead of fighting . it's ok.
The world always looks a lot brighter after a good funk.
indeed it does! time limits on funks help, too, so one doesn't wallow TOO long. thank you all for wallowing with me.
i also agree, my friend and me call it: freeing the inner tiger out, roaring and being in a bad mood, just simply indulging a little bit in - will let it go free!
i completly get where you coming from! hope today the sun is shining brighter again :)
xo
AMEN!
wollowing w/ you.
