the power of the doodle

every day has its moments, when like it or not, i have to do something when i'd rather be doing something else. you know: those little obligations, those built-in expectations, picky stuff we have to get done as part of our daily routine so our lives won't fall apart. for me this is the power of the doodle: it turns an irksome moment into something amusing and worthwhile. it helps me let go of something irritating and move on to doing what i enjoy. and then i draw about that too. this is what art is all about for me. it helps me make sense of everything, even when i'm drawing about something that i didn't want to do in the first place.

i totally relate to this. the whole "work makes work" philosophy makes perfect sense to me. no matter what happens, just getting started is a good thing.

great post!

did you perhaps have jury duty or something like that? [as is my current time sucker this week]

you have such a good attitude about it all, and me too, if i don't draw or paint i go bananas!

ummm, been going through this the last couple of days really! doodle away is the answer, do the duty then moan about it on paper. great! :))

Wonderful post and art Aimee! That's the power of making art. Doodles can be very theraputic. I think so many more people would be so much more happy and feel more fulfilled if they just let themselves try things like this more often.

i gripe WHILE i do the duty AND afterwards on paper... and steve is so right... long live the doodle!

erin: if i ever meet you, i'm going to put you on the spot. i have to say this really impresses me.
